History of PT Batan Teknologi (Persero)
Development activities and application of nuclear technology in Indonesia initiated the establishment of the State Committee for Investigation Radioaktivitet 1954. State Committee has a duty to investigate the possibility of radioactive fallout from nuclear weapons testing in the Pacific Ocean.

By considering the development and utilization of atomic energy utilization for the welfare of society, through Government Regulation no. 65 in 1958, on December 5, 1958 established the Board of Atomic Energy and Atomic Energy Agency (LTA), which is then refined into the National Atomic Energy Agency (BATAN) based on Law no. 31 year 1964 on Basic Provisions of Atomic Energy. Furthermore, each dated December 5, which is a historic date for the development of nuclear technology in Indonesia and is set as the anniversary of BATAN.

In the next development, to further improve the mastery in the field of nuclear science and technology, in 1965 inaugurated the operation of the first atomic reactor (TRIGA Mark II) in Bandung. Meanwhile, a paradigm shift in 1997 established UU No. 10 regarding Nucleur which regulate the separation of elements including implementing the utilization of nuclear energy (BATAN) with elements of the nuclear power supervisory (Bapeten).

In accordance with Law Of Presidential Decree No. 10/1997 and Decree No. Nucleur. 64/2005, BATAN designated as Non-Departmental Government Institution, is under and responsible to the President. BATAN headed by a Chief and coordinated by the State Minister for Research and Technology.
BATAN perform the basic tasks of government duties in the field of research, development and utilization of nuclear energy in accordance with regulations and legislation in force. In carrying out the task, the functions of BATAN:
  • Assessment and formulation of national policies on research, development and utilization of nuclear energy.
  • Coordinate activities in the implementation of the tasks of BATAN.
  • Facilitation and promotion of activities of government agencies in the field of research, development and utilization of nuclear energy,
  • Implementation of development and general administrative services in the areas of general planning, administration, organization and governance, personnel, finance, filing, legal, coding, and household supplies.

Purpose
The goal of nuclear science and technology development is to provide tangible support in national development with the role:

  • Improve performance management and institutional strengthening of the innovation system in order to support research, development and application of nuclear energy, isotopes and radiation
Target 
Nuclear science and technology development targets to be achieved are:
  • Increased R & D results enisora ​​form of food crop seeds, availability of basic infrastructure construction of nuclear power, people's understanding of nuclear technology, the utilization of isotopes and radiation technology applications for health; and
  • Improved performance management and institutional strengthening of the institutional system of innovation include science and technology, science and technology resources and strengthening networks in order to support the utilization of science and technology research, development and application of nuclear energy, isotopes and radiation in the community
